List the top five ideas/concepts/etc you keep in mind while writing the character that you believe are essential to accurately depicting them.

I'm answering these as my AU version of Peter instead of canon Peter. I thought it might help anyone who runs into him to understand where he's coming from.

1) Peter lost Nathan when he was 14. Nathan was test flying a plane in the Navy, and the plane crashed. He and Angela both dreamt of the crash, and it was the first time Peter’s empathy made him copy a power. Angela lost her mind when Nathan died. Arthur was suddenly stuck with an untrained Empath who he didn’t much like to begin with, so he brought Peter to the Company to raise/train for him. Peter doesn’t accidentally absorb powers anymore. That was beaten out of him by Arthur over the years. He has to focus to take one now.

2) Without a real concept of family, without Nathan there to protect him (pull his ass out of the fire), Peter’s teenage years were a nightmare. Arthur hated that Peter couldn’t control his power, and threatened to take it away from him. Peter was taught that having powers was more important than anything else, and being in control of them made Arthur proud. It did cut down on the number of times Arthur used him for a punching bag. He would have died if Noah hadn’t brought him to Adam.

3) Peter grew up with Hiro and Elle at the Company in his world. They were taught to bag, tag and kill. He was kept inside until he was old enough to start working as an actual agent. He was partnered with Noah, and he counts Noah as his dearest friend. He would die for Noah, because he knows that Noah honestly cares about him. There is no Claire in Peter’s reality since Nathan died before he could father her.

Peter lost his virginity with Elle and with Adam. He didn’t love either as more than friends. He never had time for romance, and he’s not very good at it. But if he falls in love with you, you had better deserve it because he will do anything for you – anything. Love and sex are not the same thing for Peter. Sex is just sex. But love is everything.

4) He has Arthur’s power. Of course all Peters do, they just don’t know it, but this Peter does. He was absorbing powers at 14. He’s had Arthur’s for a very long time, but he doesn’t tell anyone about that. The last thing he wants to do is to become a target for having it, or to be used as a weapon again.

5) He killed Arthur. Arthur wanted him to absorb Ted’s power, so he could blow up New York. Arthur would step into the role as the savior of the city. But Peter didn’t want that. He knew what Arthur wanted, and he refused to take Ted’s power. When Arthur threatened to strip him of his abilities, he shot him in the gut and teleported away. He’d kill his father in an instant if he saw him again.
